As many of you know, I had a whopping amount of sessions this past fall. Usually I blog about each session but since I had about 50+ sessions that I needed to blog about, I decided to compile the season into one giant post :) This makes catching up a whole lot quicker... phew!

I had so much fun photographing each and every family and child. I met some fabulous clients and took some of my most favorite images yet. With each session I do, I grow more in love with what I do and am so happy to be able to capture a special moment for my clients.

I love Valentine's Day. I think it just might be one of my favorite holidays. I know some people may say that it's just a glorified holiday to get people to spend lots of money on flowers and chocolate.. but hey, if my husband came home with those things, I wouldn't complain ;)

2011 was definitely a big year for me, to say the least. I was featured on Groupon in August which was a huge step for my business. I sold 225 of them {waaaay more than I ever thought!} which catapulted me into a four month whirlwind of session madness. To give you a little insight, I did 96 sessions this year. 81 of those were between August and December. Thinking about that makes my head spin.. :) 2011 was also a year of learning and growing...I was tested in my creativity, which I think everyone needs now and then. But I also realized that I needed to make a lot of changes. A LOT.

So, we will welcome 2012 in just a day or so. There will be many new things coming to A Thousand Words Photography.... new pricing and packages, all new products to display your beautiful images, fun mini sessions, and my fave- specialty sessions. What are those, you ask? Well, you'll just have to wait and see :) That's a whole other post! But I am suuuuper excited about everything going into 2012... I've been able to re-group and re-vamp to make 2012 a fabulous new year.

But, I couldn't leave 2011 without saying thank you! Thank you to all my wonderful clients for allowing me to document all of your special moments. I met some pretty special families throughout the year and I am so grateful to have met each and every one of you!

Here are some of my most favorite images from this year....And can I just say that it's pretty darn hard to pick out just a few. So, I picked out a lot :)

I go back and forth between wanting to specialize in a certain area of photography..such as families and children. But just when I think I have it all figured out, something {or someone} comes along and changes my mind. :) Enter, Heather... She is a local singer with a sweet disposition. Although there are plenty of singer/songwriters in our town, each one is unique... Heather was very laid back and trusted me in all the things I told her to do during our time together. I ended up getting some pretty cool images for her to use...

Isabelle | Franklin TN Child Photographer

Isabelle was a very typical two year old during our session together. She wanted to check out everything around her and do her own thing.. a very independent little girl. :) After a much anticipated treat, her mom and dad bought her a lollipop from Puckett's. After getting a taste of it, that lollipop was hers. Hah!

By the way, I love Leiper's Fork. It's what you imagine a small southern town to be.. a place where everyone knows everyone, mom and pop restaurants, yummy food, and unique shops. It's definitely a place worth visiting if you've never been. :)

This was, hands down, one of my favorite maternity sessions. I love photographing expecting parents and always want those out-of-the-box kinda photos, which is exactly what I got.

It's been entirely waaaay too long since I've blogged! And I'm not going to say the normal " I've neglected my blog" stuff... I think it's quite clear I've done that! Let's just get on to the good stuff... all these wonderful images!

This fall was insane for me... and seriously, that's an understatement. Being on Groupon has been a major success for me, despite how grueling my schedule was for the past few months. No matter what I went through, I still loved doing every session and meeting all my new, wonderful clients. :)

I met the Hansens on a beautiful Saturday morning.. They were such a genuinely sweet family and also newer to the area- they had just moved here a couple months before our session. Their two children were so stinkin' cute! Kadence was a sassy and spunky little girl... who, by the way, wanted nothing to do with me ;) and little Davin was running around, full of smiles during the entire session.

Loved meeting the Hansen family.... and can't wait to share some more great families from this past fall with you! Here are a few shots from their session..... <3

Emerson's Vintage Tea Party | Franklin TN Child Photographer

My niece, Emerson turned five years old in September. My goodness, how time has flown by!

I remember the day she was born... My mom and I had our ears pressed up against the hospital room door, listening for any sounds of the baby. It was a precious moment that I will never forget.. my mom, dad and I all looking at each other with tears in our eyes, knowing that a sweet new addition to our family had just entered the world.

Fast forward and Emerson is already turning five {going on 35 if you ask me!}. She is a sweet, vibrant young lady who will melt you heart as soon as you meet her. I am so proud to call her my niece and I love her dearly.

She had the sweetest birthday party-ever! It was a vintage tea party, nonetheless.. complete with tea, cookies, tea sandwiches, and mini whoopie pies. I loved all the details that went into this.. the cute place cards, the special food, and even the little girls' outfits {they dressed up in their finest tea time attire ;) }

I have been blessed with some amazing clients since I started my business and the Christian family was no exception.... Such a wonderful family to work with!

They had the brilliant idea of bringing Grandma along.. a must when there are three children involved! She was such a big help, especially with little Presley. It was a special day for the Christians the day I did their shoot- It was their daughter, Kennedi's birthday. The birthday girl had quite a personality, wearing her emotions on her sleeve.. she definitely reminded me of myself when I was her age!

I absolutely fell in love with the images from their session.. love their expressions!

Zane Family | Nashville TN Family Photographer

This family was so sweet... I had so much fun photographing them! They drove all the way from Kentucky to do our session, so needless to say, I felt very special that they did that! Their oldest daughter was heading back to college for the fall the next day :)

During our session, their daughters went to change really fast. During that down time, I had a chance to talk with mom and dad :) and learned that they are believers, too. It was so nice to connect and chat a bit.. It just confirms that I am in this business to bless people with my photography and to hopefully encourage them or just be a happy face to greet them that day. Man, I really love what I do.

Pink Sugar Bowl | Franklin Spring Hill Tennessee Photographer

I have some great memories featuring whoopie pies. :) Which is naturally why I love Pink Sugar Bowl and its owner, Deana Marcum!

Growing up, my mom would take me along with her to get her hair done. Next door to the salon was a bakery which sold amazing whoopie pies. I mean, we're talking BIG ones.. in chocolate and vanilla. I would always ask my mom if I could get one and she said yes {partly because it was a distraction for me!} We also had a family friend from our church that would make homemade whoopie pies and it was sooooo amazing walking into her kitchen and seeing all those whoopie pies! Oh, the memories :)

Deana is quite the talented baker, if you ask me. She has several delicious flavors {classic chocolate, hazelnut, peanut butter, pumpkin, coconut, and tennessee whiskey} that I highly suggest you try.. and I mean, try all of them! She uses some of the best ingredients out there. She uses milk from Hatcher Family Dairy {I'm all about using local businesses!} and anything natural/organic that she can get her hands on. She even has a different variation for her filling using coconut oil, which tastes so good!

Pink Sugar Bowl is working away on their website {soon to be viewable by you!} and they needed some images of their sweet goodies.. so, I was really excited to be able to work with Deana. I absolutely had so much fun photographing these treats! Hope you enjoy looking at them... I'm pretty sure they'll make you want to order some, too!

Tis the season for boys! After having my own in June, I've had one girl out of all my newborns! But that's okay, I love little boys ;)

Meet Hudson. He was the smallest little guy I have seen in quite some time. I secretly love when they are extra teeny tiny. How could you not? Hudson was so good during his session and I captured some sweet images of his adorable face.

Ok, I'll admit it. I haven't done a senior session in.......... a really long time. So long, in fact, that I forgot how fun they are to shoot! It was surprisingly, a refreshing change of pace.

Lauren, her mom and I met up on one of those last-leg-of-summer evenings. You know, the kind where the sun is setting but your still sweating! {Yes, I just wrote that. Wow.} Lauren was such a sweetheart. She was very laid-back and up for almost anything. In turn, I got some fabulous images.. I am so excited to show them off!

Meet Elsie. A sweet, precious addition to the 'S' family :) She was so good during her session, she slept through most of it. You would never have know that she was about six weeks old!

I just fell in love with this sweet peanut.... she has the most beautiful almond shaped eyes. And those lips.. well, they speak for themselves! Its always fun photographing a newborn with unique features <3

Sweet little Tanaya was sound asleep when I arrived at her home.. but the minute I wanted to start snapping away she was completely wide-eyed! Luckily she was pretty content- her mom and grandma helped out a lot. She had lots of black hair, warm brown eyes, and the cutest lips I've ever seen. I just love a baby's features!

I absolutely loved the Grandma in these photos.. She was the quietest and sweetest thing- and she was visiting her grandbaby here all the way from India :) She wore a beautiful sari with rich colors and gold stiching. I learned that in India, this is their casual-wear. I would love to just own one of these... I am always fascinated with other cultures in the world- each is so unique from the next.

Fall-O-Ween Mini Session Day | Franklin, TN Childrens Photographer

I am soooo excited to announce our first ever {Fall-O-Ween} Mini Session Day coming this October! I was really up in arms because I wanted to do both Halloween Costume Minis AND Fall Minis... so, I just decided to do both :) Yay for you!

Being in the fall spirit already, I'm dreaming of cups full of apple cider, hot chocolate, and even some sweet treats to take home. Yes, I think so.... And I don't think the kids will complain :)

I am so anxious to have a day devoted to seeing your precious children dressed in their costumes and warm fall-colored outfits :) I even plan on having my husband bring our little boy out in his Halloween costume!

P.S. I never realized how exciting every holiday would be after having a baby... It's just another excuse to take photos of my growing little man! I'm sure all you parents understand where I'm coming from :)

The Studio | Franklin, TN Portrait Photograher

Here it is!!! As I sit here writing this, I can hardly believe that I have a studio space! I am so excited to be sharing this news with you :) This is such a dream come true and I am so proud to have a space with a few of my photographer friends!

The studio is in a 1930's brick house located in historic downtown Franklin, nestled amidst the charming streets and shops of the area. As you walk into the studio, it just oozes with character. Dark, distressed hardwood floors, a vintage fireplace, and victorian crown molding are just a few of the features in the space. I know you guys will love this place just as much as I do! I can't wait for you to see it :)

I plan on using the space for all of my newborn sessions, client previews and meetings, and especially during the winter months! No more worrying about the weather! In the coming weeks, I will be having casting calls for specialized sessions as well as discounted prices for a few studio sessions. Please be on the lookout because I will definitely be needing your help!

Here are a few shots from this past weekend that I took. Please bear with me as we just moved in and are still putting on the final touches to make it just perfect for you!

Needless to say, my Groupon feature was quite the success! If I did a session a day with the amount of Groupons that I sold, I'd being doing sessions at least six months from now! Whoa!

The Burns family was my first session from the Groupon crowd and I was more than anxious to meet them! Turns out, they were a super sweet, down-to-earth family with two adorable little ones. I had so much fun during the session capturing their sweet faces...I am completely looking forward to meeting all my new clients and to capturing many more beautiful faces!

I was so honored when I was asked to photograph a special product for Amazima Ministries a few weeks ago. I was so excited too, because of what this organization does and stands for.

Amazima Ministries {uh-mahz-i-muh} meaning "Truth"} was founded by a local 19 year old girl {Katie Davis} in 2008. Only a few years later, the organization is feeding, educating, and sharing the love of Jesus to hundreds of orphaned Ugandan children. They have various programs and outreaches that are literally changing the lives of these beautiful children and their families; Programs such as sponsoring a child in Uganda which gives each child three meals a day, a Christian education, school supplies, and medical care. Or the Masese Outreach, which provides lunch to over 1,000 of the poorest children in the area. This is just a fraction of the things that Amazima is doing on a daily basis to help these adorable children.

One of their newest ventures is magazine bead necklaces and bracelets. This necklace program allows the women from some of the poorest areas to learn a skill and to sustain their families as well. The women sit around in a circle together with their children and all, making these unique pieces to sell to you and me in the U.S. So how could I not be excited to photograph these?

I had sooooo much fun during this two part session.I have a very specific vision for how I wanted the photos to look and I am so thrilled that they look just as I invisioned!

Looking at the necklaces and bracelets, each tells such a different story. I can only imagine these women just sitting around together, making the jewelry and chatting about their day. The necklaces come in a variety of colors, anything from purple to blue to green and everything in between. I love how no two necklaces are the same! There are even some necklaces that are a solid color with just one bead that is a different color. I like to think that the woman making that necklace did it on purpose, like it's her signature :)

I am so excited to share these photos with you! I hope that you would consider purchasing one of these products which goes towards such an amazing cause. The necklaces and bracelets will be available for purchase through Amazima on their website starting mid-September... I'm thinking Christmas gifts!

Henry is 3 Months Old | Franklin, TN Baby and Child Photographer

Little Henry is such a cutie! Not only did I love photographing him, but I really enjoyed meeting another great family.

During the session, Henry was super sleepy. He hadn't gotten his nap that afternoon! Luckily with some food and a power nap, we got some sweet photos of this little man.

My sister {their mom} had expressed interest at Eastyn's one year old session in April that she wanted a session of both girls done this month. So, we met up in their backyard and did a quick mini session of these two beauties. Oh my goodness...these two were literally two peas in a pod! Little Brogan was such a breeze to photograph! He was sleepy practically the entire session, which made my job cake :)

I had previously shot his mom, Chelsea's maternity session {blogged here : http://kharrisonphotography.blogspot.com/2010/07/chelseas-maternity.html } so I was very anxious for little B's arrival!

Chelsea wanted to incorporate a hat and blanket that her grandmother had handmade. They were both gorgeous pieces and I love that we used them throughout the session.

Meredith's 1 Year {Smash the Cake} Session // Franklin, TN Child Photographer

I can hardly believe that it has already been ONE YEAR since sweet little Meredith entered the world! She has turned into quite the little girl- super sweet and sooooo good for our session! Her mom brought a oversized cupcake as her "smash cake" that was almost as big as her! Although she found the icing quite tasty, she remained pretty darn clean during the whole process! Hard to imagine, I know :) This was also my first time using my newest prop, the vintage green high chair! I was so excited to use it for this session and love how they turned out! Introducing {MINI SESSIONS}

I am so excited to announce that we are now offering Mini sessions! These sessions are perfect if you need a few quick images but don't have the time needed for a full session. Minis are suitable for:

~ Children six months and older {Babies must be sitting up on their own.}
~ If you have a cute outfit you'd like to show off on your child
~ If you have a specific need such as:
- needing a photo for a birthday invite
- your child reaches a milestone such as crawling, walking, etc.

Each Mini session is $75 and includes:

Little Carson was so precious. I always love to see how different each newborn looks from the next. He had tons of dark hair and his lips were to die for..all thanks to his wonderful mom and dad! Carson made me want to see what my little guy is going to look like even more when he arrives in June! Needless to say, Carson stayed sleepy just long enough for me to get these adorable shots.

Greene Family // Franklin Family Photographer

Last week I had the pleasure of taking family portraits for the Greene family. They were such a down-to-earth family and I had such a fun time. Their oldest daughter was such a sweetheart..she was even "taking pictures" with her own "camera" as seen below. And to make things even better, the weather was absolutely gorgeous! New year, new prices! I have recently been put in a situation that many of you may have been in before- Wanting amazing custom photography but not at the "custom" price.

I am on a major hunt for a photographer to do some photos for me, since I'll be needing a maternity AND newborn session in the spring {I am due in June.} Being a photographer already, I am super picky and only what THE BEST photos. But realizing that even though I have an unlimited budget in my head the reality is that well, there is a much smaller budget. ugh.

Thinking about my situation made me reflect upon my own photography prices and realizing that custom photography needs to be affordable! Photography is deeply rooted in my heart and blessing my clients with amazing photos is an incredible feeling. I want to give my clients unique photos and an incredible experience without them worrying about the price.

Thus, new pricing for 2011 was born! {Yay!} I can't wait for what this year has in store {a baby already!!} and look forward to some wonderful sessions. Please check my website {under "investment"} for updated session pricing.

Emerson and Eastyn // Franklin Portrait Session

I had last shot Eastyn's newborn pictures back in May and was excited to get some more shots of her at six months, too. Art Edge Part II

As you might already know, I participated in a new event called Art Edge last month. It is a really awesome time to come and meet a unique blend of artists that are in our area. It is being held at Battleground Brewery in downtown Franklin...the place is super vibey with old brick walls and wicked good food. The building used to be an old jailhouse turned into a restaurant-need I say more? Besides the good food and unique atmosphere, this event showcases local artists who are up-and-coming. You are welcome to browse around at each artist or even buy one of their pieces if you'd like.

I am excited to announce that I will be participating in Art Edge again this month on October 26th. Come out {to see me!} for great food, live music, and to meet another great group of local artists. I hope to see you there!

I had the absolute honor of photographing such an amazing mom-to-be last week. I always love when a client is willing to do out-of-the-box stuff during their session, just like Chelsea was. She was so uninhibited and care free which definitely paid off in her photos! I had such a blast spending part of the day with her- it was probably the most fun I've ever had in a maternity session, too. Thanks for being such a great sport, Chelsea. Now I can't wait for her baby's newborn session!

I was so honored so be a part of such a special day in Sarah and John's lives. I had such a blast photographing their day...it was so beautiful-everything from the cake to the weather! They were such a sweet couple, too. The love and support from their friends and family members was so evident throughout the day...and the bride and groom seemed to happy to finally be married! Baby Eastyn // Franklin Newborn Session

Eastyn melted my heart from the minute I saw her. She was so peaceful, like a mini sleeping beauty. She is so perfect. But I must say, I am a little biased. After all, she is my new niece! She had been a sleeping machine up until the day I came to shoot her newborn photos {haha,of course.} but I ended up getting some super sweet photos of her anyways...She fell asleep just long enough for me to do my magic!

Portraits for a Cause

My husband and I are going on a missions trip with our church this July, to Guatemala. It's an incredible opportunity to reach out to the people who don't know Jesus and to minister to them! We are so excited to be going and feel called to be going on this trip :) \

I was so honored to photograph these two special events for the Mental Health Association of Middle TN. First I shot the Patron's Party held at a beautiful home in Nashville, which was filled with delicious food, warm people, and a great auction. I had such a great time documenting this event and meeting some great people. The second event was the Vince Gill and Friends concert held at the Ryman Auditorium. Again, I got to meet some very important people and enjoyed some fabulous music! I had such a blast photographing Melissa for her maternity session. Melissa and her family own a 7 acre farm out in the country and it is beautiful...no, breathtaking. The farm is 110 years old and oozes rustic charm. It was a breath of fresh air (literally!) compared to city life and I soaked up every snapshot I could. I could have spent the entire day there taking photos! Hope you fall in love with these photos as much as I did.....

The best part of photographing my sister is that well, she's my sister! We were able to experiment with some really neat shots and they turned out amazing. Baby Ella // Spring Hill Maternity Session

Miss Ella is quite a special little girl. I was so anxious to meet her, especially since I felt like I already knew her from photographing her mom Kayce in a progression during her pregnancy. Kayce had Ella a few days after our maternity shoot but after some complications, little Ella had to stay in the hospital for 8 weeks. She is back at home now and I absolutely had a blast photographing her. She was the tiniest little baby, even at 2 months old! But she was already used to being photographed (maybe it was all that picture taking while in the womb?!) that she even looked right at me while I was shooting. :) Needless to say, she definitely melted my heart.

I have had the privlege of working with Kayce since she was four months pregnant. I took photos of her at every month, following her pregnancy right up until the last minute. It was so neat to see how much her belly grew every month and of course how exciting it was to hear she was having a little girl.
